- JUDITH BENGUIGUI -

Judith Benguigui was born in Oujda, Morocco in 1962 and grew up in France where she arrived at the age of five.
She studied Law and graduated her Bachelor’s degree in law at the Sorbonne University in Paris. Then, she became a real estate broker and developer. In 1993 she married a Belgian pediatrician and followed him to Brussels, Belgium.
There she decided to dedicate mostly to painting, sculpting and interior design. Her first exhibition was in 1996 at the Tat’s Gallery in Brussels. Since then she has had three more exhibitions at her “Hotel Particulier” in Brussels and at Brunello’s.
In 2004 her work came on public display in the U.S. for the first time, when she participated at the Amities-Expo 2004 at the "Residence de France" in Los Angeles. She has painted a series of works especially for her opening at Roche-Bobois under the theme, "Couleurs Cafe"

Autodidact, Judith Benguigui works in a spontaneous way, playing with colors and forms. At times, she finds her inspiration from symbols of Jewish tradition, and sometimes simply by walking through nature. A recent conversation she had about travel to exotic destinations inspired "African Dancers" Most important for her are colors and movement. Often, in her works she loves using a lot of material to provide even more depth to her paintings. She paints broadly and generously, mostly with knife and oil as well as sometime acrylic. Standing apart from standards and streams, Judith Benguigui manages to convey a simple yet powerful connection to her work. In it she questions her sense
of life and it echos her spirituality. A natural born painter, she feeds mystical introspections from a nurtured childhood to unhealed memories from North Africa with dynamic touches of color. In this never ending quest, Judith Benguigui's projects bare her energy onto canvas or clay to provide a fresh, unexpected and calming feeling of harmony.
